Chassis check: wheel bearing work

Chassis check

How to recognise a chassis problem and when to visit a workshop

The chassis affects stability, braking and tyre wear. If the car knocks, vibrates or pulls to one side, it is better not to delay a check.

Start with the change you can describe

The chassis includes several systems; a noise or handling change does not identify one failed component. Mention whether the issue appears on bumps, while turning, at road speed or under braking. If you have noticed more than one symptom, describe them separately.

Choose the guide that matches your symptom

Tyres, brakes and suspension can affect the same symptom

Uneven tyre wear or vibration can have several causes. Wheel balancing and alignment are different operations, and neither should be treated as an automatic cure. A chassis check helps establish the relevant inspection before choosing parts or further work.

When to arrange help before travelling

A sudden steering change, unstable handling, severe vibration, visible wheel or tyre damage, or changed braking needs prompt assessment. Stop safely if control is affected and discuss suitable assistance. Do not drive extra test routes to reproduce an unsafe symptom.

What to tell the workshop

Include the make, model and year, the symptom and whether it followed a pothole impact, wheel change or repair. The published chassis-check price describes a check, not an all-inclusive suspension repair. We explain the findings and agree any additional work.

Discuss the next step

Send the make, model, year and the details relevant to your question. We will agree the scope, price and appointment with you.
