Book before the first sharp change in weather
Repeated chilly mornings around 7 °C, cold wet roads and plans to drive into the mountains are useful prompts to arrange a change. 7 °C is a planning guideline, not a legal deadline. Do not wait for the first snow or frost: check the tyres in advance and offer several possible appointment dates during the busy season.
Czech winter tyre requirements
From 1 November to 31 March, winter tyres are required when roads have continuous snow, ice or frost, or when these conditions can reasonably be expected during the journey. For cars up to 3,500 kg, winter tyres must be fitted to all wheels with at least 4 mm in the main tread grooves.
Also follow the “Zimní výbava” winter-equipment sign and any supplementary plate: the sign can impose requirements independently of the date and current weather. See the Czech Ministry of Transport guide (PDF, Czech). Before travelling abroad, check each country’s rules separately.
Why not wait for snow?
A sudden cold spell can quickly fill workshop appointments. Checking early also gives you time to replace worn tread, a damaged sidewall or an unevenly worn tyre. Consider the whole route, especially mountains or colder regions, not just the weather at home.
Tyre change or complete wheel-set swap?
Complete tyre change
Tyres are removed from the rims, the other set is fitted, the wheels are balanced and then refitted to the vehicle.
Complete wheel-set swap
Your winter tyres are already fitted to their own rims, so the complete wheels are swapped without removing the tyres from the rims.
Need new tyres as well?
Send the tyre size, vehicle and budget. We suggest suitable options, check availability and confirm the price. We order only after you approve the quotation. See our tyre service or all-season versus winter tyres if you are choosing between one and two sets.

What we check during tyre service
- Tread depth and evenness of wear.
- Cracks, bulges and visible sidewall damage.
- Valves and possible pressure loss.
- Visible ageing.
- Vibration and the need for balancing.
Uneven wear can be related to pressure, alignment or the chassis. We explain any concerning findings and recommend the next step.
When not to keep using a tyre
Do not postpone a check for rapid pressure loss, a bulge, a deep crack or sidewall damage. Call before continuing if there is strong vibration, a major pothole impact or uncertainty about safe driving.

During 1 November–31 March, the general requirement depends on actual or reasonably expected snow, ice or frost during the journey. Winter-equipment signs can impose additional requirements.
Is 7 °C a legal rule?

What tread depth is required?
For cars up to 3,500 kg under the winter conditions described above, at least 4 mm in the main tread grooves.
How much does a tyre change cost?
A complete change of four tyres starts at CZK 1,000, depending on size. A complete wheel-set swap costs CZK 600; puncture repair starts at CZK 200.
Can you source new tyres?
Yes. We agree suitable options, availability and price and order only after you approve the quotation.
